Letters

Spelling in English can be a little difficult as letters can sound quite different in other languages, there may be a completely different writing system in the language(s) you're familiar with.

The aim of this page is to enable learners of English to become more familiar with how we pronounce letters and providing tools to hear the letters.

Letters can have different sounds in words so this is something else to get used to. The phonetics page can help you to become more familiar with the sounds in English.

Saying the alphabet can be quite easy because it's a repeated and well-known order. However, spelling words isn't necessarily so easy. So, practising spellings can help you to remember letters. You can also test yourself with the audios below, picking random letters to say and then checking to see if you're correct.

*Please remember this is British English, so there may be slight differences to what you know. (for example, 'z' in British English is 'zed' but it is 'zee' in American English).
