Numbers

It can be difficult to say numbers in any foreign language and sometimes they are not taught or practised enough in classrooms.

This page will look at a range of numbers in order to help those who would like to become more familiar and gain confidence using them.

NOTES

'One' or 'A' when saying 'hundred', etc.

When we say 100, 1000, 1 million, etc. we can say: one hundred, one thousand, one million or we can say a hundred, a thousand, a million.

'One' tends to be said in more formal situations or for emphasis whereas 'a' is used in conversation as is more natural. 'A' is more commonly used with hundred but it can be used with thousand, million, etc. too.

Notice that the spelling of 'forty' omits the letter 'u'.
